"Last Wednesday Apèro" - Saint Patrick's Day Event 31st March, 18h00 GMT
St Patrick's Day is of course on 17 March, but our Irish friends, Helen, Pam and Michael are preparing an Irish celebration for the last Wednesday on Zoom. Wear something green and be ready to join in.
Wine Tasting event - Friday 5th March 18.00 (UK) 19.00 (France)
Following the success of the first wine tasting event in January, another is planned for 18h00GMT (19h00 CET) on Friday 5th March. Laititia Pietri-Geraud is a Collioure winemaker from a long-established family of vignerons. See https://www.domaine-pietri-geraud.com. She will be talking about Banyuls and Collioure wines. The presentation will be in English and French. The event is organised by Sue Wheeler, so contact her for more details at firstname.lastname@example.org
International Women's Day - Monday 8th March
In normal times there is a meal organised for this, and a donation to Fondation des Femmes. This year we are organising a Virtual Lunch at 13h00 (CET) 12h00 (GMT). Prepare your own lunch to eat together! There will be a quiz or game to entertain us. If participants would like to, people can give a very short talk about an inspirational woman in their lives (famous or personal). This is optional. There is a donation button here so that people can donate, even if they cannot attend. Please register if you would like to be included on the Zoom list for the lunch.
THE ALLURE OF COLLIOURE - Friday 19 March 1800 GMT (1900 France) on Zoom.
Pete Wheeler is an Emeritus Professor of Fine Art with a house in Caunes Minervois. His talk will focus on Collioure and its defining role in the History of Art. He will look at the painters who worked there, will ask what made them work there, will look at the paintings that were made there, will ask what made them different? He will also cast a sideways glance at other art centres in the Rousillon and the contribution they made to the artistic and historical legacy of the region. To attend contact Sue Wheeler email@example.com for a Zoom invitation.
Days Out Booklet - Stephanie, Philippa and Sally have
now constituted a team to put together a new Vermeille International book in
French and English. The topic this time is "Days out from the Côte
Vermeille/Sorties au départ de la Côte Vermeille". In the first instance
we would like to hear from any of you who plan to contribute (no need to start
writing at this stage). The day out (or even a couple of days) could be
your favourite destination on foot, on your bike, by car, or by public
transport; a winter or summer outing; for rainy days or sunshine. you could
include any recommended restaurants or picnic sites, and perhaps, if there's an
overnight stay, suggested accommodation. Please send
an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org saying where you have in mind and how far away
it is, so that we can make a balanced selection. If your idea fits the bill, we
will get back to you with more practical information. Any photos you can supply
will be welcome, though this is not a deal breaker as we can probably source
Virtual Art Exhibition - We are looking at the possibility of running a virtual art exhibition next year, possibly in the early summer. If you are an artist bear this in mind, and use this lockdown time to develop your art.
Recipe Book - featuring favourite recipes from our members, the booklet is on sale now. We have ordered more of our excellent Recipe Books, having sold all the first 100,
and they have just arrived, so get your orders to us as soon as you can.
VI Groups - As the association grows, a variety of separate groups
representing different activities are emerging, so if you are keen on any of the groups, let us know.
Russian: The small group of Russian speakers meets in Port Vendres on Fridays at 1500 for conversation and coffee when Tanya is here. Contact Linda for details.
Spanish: Carol Fraine has offered to lead a Spanish conversation group on Thursday afternoons if you want to go along. Again, contact Linda for details of venue. (Beginners level, but more advanced also possible.)
English: I'm sorry not to have made more progress here. The idea is to meet for an hour or so for a chance for conversation practice. I shall be sending out a short podcast in the coming days to give a theme to get us started. This is not a beginners' group, but a chance to polish up language skills that may be a little rusty.
Bird Watching: I send out occasional information to those who are interested in the birds of this area. If you would like to receive these emails, let me know.
